works until you are online.
How you sign in — read this before you startKiro: choose AWS Builder ID and use the free
tier. No AWS account, nothing to pay, 50 credits a month — enough for today. If you cannot
create a Builder ID, or you run out of credits, use the paper slip you were
given; that route carries a paid plan and needs no email.
The access codes below are not for Kiro. They open a temporary AWS sandbox
account used by the optional deploy section and by the afternoon Claude Code session.

How to open a lab — the order mattersGo to catalog.workshops.aws/join.
Sign in first — pick AWS Builder ID and create one if you
do not have it, or use the email one-time-password option. Then enter the event
access code. Now follow the instructions on that page for the rest of the session.
Use your @lasd.org work address: the event only admits
@lasd.org and @amazon.com, so a personal address is turned away. Make
your Builder ID with that same work address and one sign-in covers both the lab and Kiro.
Do not search for the workshop and open it directly — that is the public
self-paced copy, with no event and no AWS account behind it, so the lab's setup steps will not
work. Joining with the code is what gets you the real thing.

Can't install software on your laptop? You can still do the afternoon labThe Claude Code session provides a ready-made Windows desktop in your
browser — Claude Code, Claude Cowork, VS Code, Git and the AWS CLI already
installed, Bedrock access configured for you. Ask for the DCVUrl and sign in. It needs port 8443
open on the office guest network, and it has its own clipboard.

Optional — for afterwards, not during the workshopThe Kiro interactive
tutorial is a game-based walkthrough of specs, steering and hooks. It is good practice on
your own time, but do not start it during the session — stay with the two labs above so the
room keeps pace together.
